What we ask of you
ListenPoint is small and invitation-only. This is written plainly rather than legally, and it is short on purpose. If something here doesn't work for you, say so and we'll talk about it.
The work is yours
You keep everything. Your copyright, your masters, your name. You're giving us permission to store your audio and play it to people standing at the place where it's been put — nothing else. No compilations, no licensing it on, no using it to advertise. Withdraw it whenever you like and that permission ends.
Only place what's actually yours
Everything you upload has to be yours to give, including anything you sampled, any performance on it, and any recording you didn't make yourself. We have no way to check this and we're trusting you.
Where it goes
You propose a location; we set the final one. We'll move it or decline it if the spot doesn't work, and we won't place work at someone's home, a school, a hospital, or anywhere that would make a person's life worse for being near it.
Think about how somebody gets there. Not across a highway, not through somewhere they'd be trespassing, not somewhere you wouldn't stand yourself after dark. If reaching your work requires ignoring a sign or a fence, it's the wrong spot.
What can't go up
Anything aimed at a specific person. Anything that harasses, threatens, or could put a listener in danger. Anything illegal. Recordings of people made without their knowledge, where they'd reasonably expect privacy.
Once it's live, it's fixed
Audio and the area around it can't be edited after a work goes live — that's deliberate. Titles and text you can change any time. To change the recording or move the spot, withdraw it and place a replacement.
We can take things down
If someone reports a work it's hidden straight away, before anyone has looked at it. That's not a judgement about you — it's how we avoid leaving something harmful up while we work out what happened. We'll listen, and either put it back or tell you why not. We can also remove work for any other reason, and we'd rather explain than not.
What we're not responsible for
We can't control how listeners behave, where they walk, or what happens to them getting there. That's on them, and we tell them so.
This is a pilot
It might stop. If it does, we'll tell you before it happens and you'll get your files back. Nothing here is forever, on either side.
Questions go to whoever invited you. That's the whole support department right now.
